The story behind Dungbe
Dung Beetles
Our name, Dungbe, is after the dung beetle (the Scarabaeidae). Dung beetles are beetles that feed on animal feces. They roll dung into round balls, which are used as a food source or breeding chambers. Some species of dung beetles can roll dung 250 times their own mass in one night.
Dung beetles live in many habitats, including deserts, grasslands and savannas, farmlands and forests. They are found on all continents except Antarctica.
Several species of the dung beetle, enjoyed a sacred status among the ancient Egyptians. The Egyptian scarab, modeled after the dung beetle, was one of the most well-recognized symbols in Ancient Egypt. , It was closely connected with the sun god, and became a symbol of rebirth, regeneration, and the eternal cycle of life and protection in the afterlife.
